The Free Year Is Real. The Renewal Price Is Not Printed Anywhere.

Honest resident agent representation in Rhode Island for $99/year. Includes the address used on filings, same-day scanning of legal mail, and reminders for state deadlines.

We are not a neutral party and will not pretend to be one. RI Registered Agent.org sells Rhode Island resident agent service at $99 a year, so every argument below is an argument that happens to suit us. The difference is that all of it can be checked, and we will tell you exactly where to check it.

Free Means Free

Run your formation through Inc Authority and year one of agent coverage is handed over at no charge. That is not a discount wearing a costume. There is no charge in year one, and for an owner counting every dollar at launch, twelve free months of a service you are legally required to have is a genuinely good deal. Nobody should be embarrassed about taking it.

Our complaint is narrower, and it concerns a single missing number.

What Is Printed, and What Is Not

A Rhode Island owner deciding who should hold the resident agent line can look up almost every relevant figure before spending anything.

Figure Where you can read it before you buy
Rhode Island LLC annual report fee Published, $50, Form 632
Rhode Island fee to change your agent Published, $20
Rhode Island LLC formation fee Published, $150, plus a small portal access fee if filed online
Who currently holds your agent line Published, free, in the state's business records
Our first-year price $99, on this page and our pricing page
Our renewal price $99, the same number, forever
Inc Authority's renewal price We could not find one

That last row is the whole page.

We went looking for it the way any buyer would, in the places a recurring rate normally sits on a website: the material laying out what each package contains, the section answering common customer questions, and the front of the site itself. It was not in any of them. The likeliest explanation is entirely ordinary, not sinister. The figure probably appears inside a checkout flow, or gets spoken aloud by a salesperson on a call. A company is allowed to sell that way.

It just moves the work onto you. Every other name in this category can be compared against every other name in about the time it takes to open a handful of browser tabs. This one can only be compared after you have already begun something.

Rhode Island Is Built the Opposite Way

Worth noticing, because the state you are registering in made the opposite choice everywhere.

Rhode Island prints its fees. It prints the forms. Anyone can open the state's business records, without an account and without paying, and see exactly whose name sits on the resident agent line today. Then it goes a step further than most states in the same direction: ahead of every February 1, a courtesy reminder about the annual report goes into the post, addressed to the agent named on that line.

Which makes the missing number slightly more pointed than it would be elsewhere. Rhode Island has designed its compliance system so that the agent is the delivery route for the state's own warning. You are not buying a mailbox. You are buying the channel your one scheduled notice travels down, and one provider in this comparison will not tell you in advance what that channel will cost you from the thirteenth month onward.

Two Numbers, Both on This Page

Year one with us is $99. Year two is $99. There is no third figure, because there is one service.

For that money: a Rhode Island street address carrying your public filings so your own stays private, papers served on us imaged on arrival and held in your archive indefinitely, warnings when the window opens in February and again as May 1 closes in, and general business mail imaged at a published $15 per item if you want that. Checkout contains one item and no ladder of things to decline.

Since this is a page about published numbers, here is one more that is not ours. $99 is among the lowest published annual rates for this state, not the single lowest, since $90 appears in BetterLegal's own price list.

What It Costs to Walk Away From a Free Year

One form, number 642, and $20 to the Division of Business Services, on paper or online. The steps live on our Rhode Island change of agent guide.

The specific hazard when you leave something free is that there is no invoice marking the boundary, so it is easy to assume the relationship ended when you stopped thinking about it. Closing an account with any provider leaves the state's record untouched. Get us onto the resident agent line first, verify it in your entity record, and unwind the rest afterward. Otherwise your company is still formally represented by a company that has stopped working for it, and the state has no way to know.
